Take Overs

For one episode I took my Chat Shit Show to Balamii Radio

On The Corner Records once took over Soho Radio for a whole week. I was invited to partake in the takeover, with my show ‘Electric Dish’.

I took over DJ Ritu’s A World In London to interview artists at WOMAD festival in 2018. In this takeover I interview tons of musicians, from Orchestre Le Mangelepa (Kenya) to Goldie (UK) - Amadou and Mariam (Mali)  , Herbaliser  (UK) My Baby (Amsterdam) and Tal National (North Africa Fusion) + more!

I went along to the BBC to catch Minyeshu on her journey from Ethiopia, where I took over A World in London for DJ Ritu, and interviewed her.

DJ Ritu’s ‘A World In London’

Ritu

Executive Production Assistant

DJ Ritu has been pioneering the for front of the global music scene for over 31 years!

A World In London celebrates its thirteenth year as the UK’s definitive global music show, based in the heart of London and presented by DJ Ritu. The show has surpassed 500 episodes!

Now AWIL is hosted on Resonance FM & SOAS Radio, and is available on-line at iTunes, Mixcloud, and DAB.

Over the past three years, assisting on two live shows per week, my role with Ritu has expanded to include more and more responsibilities as faith, trust and mutual respect has grown between us,

I assist Ritu in any number of things from emailing and booking artists through their PR or directly, completing our online schedules, ensuring artists are sent their information packages, and the stations have received the artist tech specs.

I ensure the guests understand the studio rules before the show, and ensure their comfort. I then provide any technical assistance needed to Ritu throughout the shows, and ensure we take high quality pictures as well as a ‘Facebook LIVE’ video.

Furthermore, on AWIL SOAS Radio, I present the new releases we have that week.

On the occasion Ritu has to miss a show, she entrusts the presenting and maintaining of the shows quality and standards to me, and co-producer Norman Druker.

Below are some examples of when I have hosted A World In London on behalf of DJ Ritu.

Here I hosted ‘Zackiel’ for DJ Ritu.

In this episode, I was the guest along side ‘Strut Records’ owner Quinton Scott, to talk about my award winning dissertation topic, “Appropriate Appropriation? - An exploration off ‘record diggers’ and their connection to independent record labels”.

Whilst Ritu was in India, she entrusted Norman and I to host AWIL, presenting our favourite tracks from 2020 so far.

Chat Shit Show

Chat Shit Show is self-explanatory: Sophie Darling invites a pal for each episode, with a focus topic on which to Chat Shit, illustrated with musical tracks.

Expect profanity, expect satire and expect an awful lot of chatting shit. Buckle in - it’s a right laugh!

…and here was our second episode for Balamii, unfortunately during which, we had decided to cancel my show. I was told that it was because they had taken too many new shows on, and needed to back up. However, I have a feeling they didn’t like the name still…(rude?).

At this point, Chat Shit Show was taken onto Balamii Radio station. What exciting news, the first Sunday of every month 9-10pm!

However, they didn’t like the name of the show, so in between deciding how to rebrand it and what it’s shiny new name would be, Balamii uploaded the show incorrectly, and painfully named: ‘The Chat Show’ - (what?).
