Radio Production

I have been producing radio for over three years now, my skills are broad from studio management, to technical troubleshooting, working and training use of radio studio, training basic audio editing skills on Adobe Audition, helping others to form ideas for radio, producing shows for others, and presenting & interviewing.

I’v gained these skills in a number of roles, for example I was SOAS Radio Music Editor, a position I held for two years. It was my responsibility to ensure the standard of the station was maintained, whilst encouraging and nurturing new music shows, editing and producing for others.

Other production and editing roles I have taken:

  • Executive producer on ‘DJ Ritu’s' - A World In London’

  • Producing and editing ‘Amy’s Archives: Sudan Sessions’

  • Producing and editing ‘Guava Beats’

  • Doing various campaigns such as ‘Bagpipes for Palestine’

  • Producing the SOAS Concert Series podcasts

  • Producing and Editing ‘Discovering the World of Music’

I host and maintain three of my own personal series:

  • Electric Dish - A in depth music analysis show

  • Chat Shit Show - A comedic chat show, illustrated with music

  • Femina del Fuego - A all-women chat and music show

Event Curation - From beginning to End

I very much enjoy curating evenings of music. Over time I have worked on curating a number of event series from scratch: including organising and hiring a venue, choosing and curating line up, running and hosting the evening, paying everyone, ensuring set times, line checks and sound checks are good, design, and promotion of the evening… Examples of my own events include the SOAS Musicians Series, DJ Darling on the Decks and more…

My most treasured event is my ongoing philanthropic event series ‘Same Wave' Musician Series’ :

Same Waves Musicians Series is a celebration of music, art and culture, with 100% of the profits in solidarity with charities supporting refugees and migrants in the UK and beyond.

Upon entrance you can exchange your ticket for a token, with which you can select one of our two chosen charities to donate your ticket fund too.

There will also be an illustrative 'zine available for purchase of £2 featuring art and photography from young refugees, and information regarding the charities.

So far I have raised over £2,000 to be shared amongst charities through ongoing music fundraising events.

Consultation and Curation

As well as this, I have helped to curate events for others, such as booking or consulting on acts for the curation of Victorious Festival, and it’s “World Music Village”. As well as the world music festival of Southsea. As well as this, I have consulted and helped to book many bands and DJ’s for events at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Event Help & Hosting

I frequently act as the host for a number of events held and run by Rhythm Passport, on the evening I will ensure guests and artists are happy, as well as act as front of house, and event host for the evening, taking charge of the stage - introducing the acts.

Workshops and Conferences

During my time in university, I co-founded free weekly DJ workshops weekly.

I am also planning a workshop with Angie Lemon PR that focuses on teaching self-promotion skills to independent artists.

I am working on a later summer conference to be held in Rich Mix alongside Rhythm Passport. The conference is aiming to be the one-stop for the “world” music industry. I will be hosting a number of panels.

🔊VINLY - INTERNATIONAL GROOVES, DISCO, DUB🔊

Reggae was the first music style I loved, having it played to me from the age of 5 on a mixtape made by my godfather. I grew up exclaiming “I’m the happiest I could possibly be” when dancing to live reggae, ska and dub.

I’ve always related hard to the lyrics “Mumma didn’t raise this rude boy, he was raised in the dance” by Gentlemans Dub Club. I realise I don’t classify as a ‘rude boy’ but that lyric always caught me, indeed ‘the dance’ very much wove the fabrics of who I am today, what excites me and how I spend my time. I still genuinely exclaim, overwhelmed with happiness, almost feigning disbelief “I couldn’t be happier” when I’m “skanking” to live music or a booming DJ set - not a care in the world except a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other.

Naturally I began DJing, almost unable to resist selecting totally grooving songs - I starting off commandeering parties, and developed a demand. Through radio and my degree in Ethnomusicology, I started to curate my vinyl collections carefully to include chunks of African, maqqam and Maghreb disco, reggae ska and dub, calypso, rapso, cumbia... the list goes on, anything that grooves and makes me feel good.

I now play vinyl only DJ sets frequently around town (and CDJ sets too), some festivals, and a residency in ‘The Post Bar’ @ Seven Sisters every other Thursday, as well as continuing my online radio show ‘Electric Dish’ MIX series.
